About Us and our dogs

I am owned by 4 Huskies a Labrador, a Beagle and a horse. I decided to complete a Dog Behaviour Course from the Ethology Academy recommended by the South African Board for Companion Animal Professionals (SABCAP). I am a professional member of SABCAP certifying me as a dog behaviour consultant. I completed practical work with Gill Painter a well known Animal Behaviour consultant and trainer of the industry. And learned a lot from my mentor Kirsten Frisch a Certified Professional Dog Trainer from America. I have done practical training with Kirsten at Buddy's Chance LLC in Texas as well as attended a nose work class and a workshop in reactive dogs at the training centre in Austin, Texas.

To further my knowledge I have completed the full Professional Dog Training and Behavior course of Raising Canine LLC of the USA. Raising Canine provides content-rich, remote education opportunities for animal behavior consultants. I am also the liaison for Raising Canine LLC here in South Africa for professional dog trainers and behaviour consultants.

I specialize in Husky behavior and training through learning theory as my base for training force free with clicker training, I do however also help owners with different breeds of dog better understand their dogs too. I completed (June 2011) a clicker training horse course in England with International Horse clicker trainer Alexandra Kurland and a TTeam clinic in May 2011 with Catherine Williams. I have done a 1 year course in Equitation Science with From The Horses Mouth with Tacita Chas Giemre. Based on work from Andrew McLean and Paul McGreevy from Australia for the year 2012 based on learning theory and horse behaviour inluding both practical and theory training. I have attended a clinic of Andrew McLean in 2012. I have presented numerous dog behavior and training workshops as well as clicker training workshops for horse owners. I have also been a guest on the Expresso Show on SABC3 in 2012 as well as a guest on the radio Talk Show in the States called, The SibeVibe talking about Huskies and training in 2013.

I run and own a successful positive reinforcement training facility, dog day care and boarding kennels as well as a dog shop with imported and local goodies. We offer regular dog training and behaviour seminars here at dog-care-centre. I started learning how to mush with dogs in the beginning of 2007. In 2009 my husband and I started All Breeds Sledding club after visiting my friends in Fairbanks, Alaska learning more about the dog powered sport in 2008. We have since revisited Alaska in winter of 2011 and met with Iditarod musher Jeff King and World renown sprint musher Egil Ellis.

I am a published author of Winter Dogs; Living with Huskies as Pet dogs. My publisher is Strategic Publishing Group. I am also the published author of Shaping Your Dog-The Positive Way. I am a Free lance writer for Animal Talk Magazine.

My husband and I along with our baby boy Logan share our home with our dogs and mush on all the roads the Cape has to offer as far as Knysna.

I am also involved with Husky Rescue S.A. with, rescuing, rehabilitating and re homing of the breed as well as fund-raising. Although I used to foster Huskies for a couple of years I now focus on fund-raising, educating husky owners and doing home checks mostly with the occasional foster dog.

I am also a associate member with MUSH with P.R.I.D.E.

I learn each day, but would like to share with you what I have learned through, training, experience, books, mentors and my dogs. I make use of force free positive reinforcement including clicker training.

I used to work as a qualified beauty therapist (ITEC) and it still comes in handy when I need to cut little Logan's nails or the dogs toe nails...LOL.

Growing up with horses Mandy has a remarkable love and interest for horses. She is the proud mom of two beautiful cross breed horses, a mare named Lulu and a gelding named Ipi Tombi. She is also owned by 3 dogs named Britney, Layla and the newest rescue edition Zena. Zena came to us with her brother as a rescue puppy. She is a cross between a Border Collie and a Husky.

Mandy has been with us since the end of 2011 steeling the hearts of our clients dogs. She takes great care of all the dogs coming to stay with us and has completed her apprenticeship in dog training at dog-care-centre in 2012.

She not only works with the dogs by caring for them and taking them for walks but is also responsible for making bookings and training of our board and train dogs.
